James Holman #83 reports on the Legends Round at Silverstone

Qualifying Practice
Qualifying Practice at the home of British Motorsport
started with a few damp patches around, but James
settled into proceedings nicely with a lap time 1.10.456 at an average speed of 83.81 mph, which was
good enough for P2, 0.03 behind Lawrence Davey in the
#2 car.
Round 3 – Saturday 5th May
Race 1
In the grid ‘ball draw’, 18th place on the grid was drawn. The drama immediately started on the warm up lap, with James losing the brake pedal. Having to face to the prospect of racing with
virtually no brakes, the JRA Motorsport driver had to draw on all of his experience and skill to make his way through the tricky opening couple of corners. Incredibly he managed to make his way upto P5 by the checkered flag, a result that delighted the team under the circumstances.
Race 2
With the brake problem identified and fixed by the team, James took up P5 on the grid for race 2, and got boxed in on the opening lap down into P7. The nature of the Silverstone National circuit is of such that bump-drafting is the order of the day on the long straights and James was able to use this to great effect by rocketing up into P2 by lap 2 and the lead on lap 3. However the downside is that no matter how quick you are in the tighter section of the circuit it is impossible to pull away at the front. Embroiled in a 4 car dice for the lead with two laps to go, James was knocked off the circuit under braking for Brooklands, but was lucky to be able to carry on and recover to P12
by the end, which was a frustrating result to say the least!
Final
There was a huge race against time to get the damage repaired on time to car, with a wheel being
completely destroyed in the accident. Roland and Nick raced around Northamptonshire to find a tyre fitter for the new wheel, and made it back with minutes to spare. James started P14 and had a great opening couple of laps, settling into P2 chasing down the #55 car of Ben Power, which he caught and managed to get past to lead on lap 5, but once again with the nature of the
circuit, getting away proved impossible and started battling with the #41 car of Eliot Bunn. James was in prime position behind Eliot with 2 laps to go when he got spun around from behind, again managing to keep going after a short delay to finish a creditable P6 despite the spin.
Overall a very frustrating day, getting knocked out of the lead battle twice having lead those races, but still managed to salvage P4 overall on the day, which may prove important come seasons end.
