The History of Legends Cars

In 1992, the officials at Charlotte Motor Speedway recognised the increasing costs of 'short circuit' motor racing and decided to find a solution. The brief was very simple: design an affordable race car that required little maintance and had low running costs.
As race car entries began to drop drastically, track officials estimated that 30% to 40% of the race cars in North America were not competing because of the cost. After further research, track officials noticed that when car costs went over $20,000, participation dwindled. Tracks featuring cars in the $10,000 to $15,000 price range with low maintenance expenses (cost of racing a car per race) had significantly increased car entries.
As a result of this research, in January 1992, US Legend Cars, Inc. was launched and began a highly-accelerated Research & Development program to create a new race car that would be affordable, race on smaller tracks and have low maintenance costs.
In April of 1992 that the first Legends Car was unveiled at the Lowe's Motor Speedway. The concept of creating a fun and affordable "spec" class of racing for anyone to participate in was born.
Since that time, the Legends Cars have become one of the fastest growing segments of motorsports today. With series running in the USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Scotland, Finland, Russia, Denmark, France, Benelux, and Holland. Legends Cars is THE racing opportunity that is available to anyone. The Legends Car continues to be produced by US Legend Cars, Inc. in Harrisburg, North Carolina. Currently they are the largest mass producer of race cars in the world. Presently, there are more than 3,500 Legends Cars in existence.
What is a Legends Car?
It's a 5/8 scale replica of a 1930's Ford or Chevrolet sedan or coupe. These 'pocket rockets' boast a gutsy 125bhp Yamaha motorcycle engine and are capable of speeds well in
excess of 210 Km/h or 130 Mph. The Legends Car is a real race car, consisting of a tubular frame and roll cage, a locked differential and tight, responsive steering. It was originally designed for oval track racing but the car is equally comfortable on a conventional circuit
when properly prepared, to turn left and right!
Strict rules limit modifications, keep the costs down and reveal the talents of the drivers. Equal performance and reversed grids guarantee fast, exciting and dramatic racing.
